Flange Types
Carbon Steel Flanges
The most widely used flange material for industrial piping systems.
Carbon steel is the dominant material choice for pipe flanges in the petrochemical, refinery, and power generation industries due to its combination of strength, weldability, availability, and cost effectiveness. The two primary forging specifications are ASTM A105 for ambient and elevated temperature service and ASTM A350 LF2 for low-temperature service requiring Charpy impact testing.
ASTM A105 flanges are rated for continuous service temperatures from -20F to approximately 800F. Above this range, creep and graphitization become concerns, and chrome-moly alloy steels are typically specified. For sour service environments containing hydrogen sulfide (H2S), A105 flanges must meet the hardness limitations of NACE MR0175/ISO 15156, typically 22 HRC maximum.
Flanges.IO maintains a large inventory of carbon steel flanges in all standard types (weld neck, slip on, blind, socket weld, threaded, and lap joint), sizes from 1/2" through 60", and pressure classes from 150 through 2500. All flanges ship with certified material test reports. Contact us for competitive pricing and same-day shipping on stock items.
