Flange Types
Blind Flanges
Solid disc flanges used to seal pipe ends and pressure vessel openings.
Blind flanges are solid discs with no center bore, designed to seal the end of a piping system, a pressure vessel nozzle, or a valve opening. They are bolted to a mating flange using a gasket to create a pressure-tight closure. Blind flanges must withstand the full system pressure acting across their entire face area, which makes them one of the most heavily loaded flange types.
Available in raised face, flat face, and ring type joint configurations, blind flanges are manufactured per ASME B16.5 (1/2" through 24") and B16.47 (26" through 60"). Common materials include ASTM A105 carbon steel, A182 F304/F316 stainless steel, and various alloy grades. Because they bear the full hydrostatic end load, blind flanges are thicker than other flange types at the same size and class.
Typical applications include dead-end closures for future piping connections, isolation points for maintenance activities, and hydrostatic test closures during construction. Blind flanges can also be drilled and tapped for small instrument or drain connections. Flanges.IO stocks blind flanges in all standard sizes and pressure classes with fast delivery nationwide.
