The raised face seating area on each disc must be protected from scratches, dents, and corrosion that could compromise the gasket seal.

These spectacle blinds are found in high-pressure chemical synthesis, polyethylene production, and ultra-high-pressure steam systems. The limited size range at Class 1500 (typically NPS 1/2 through NPS 12) reflects the practical constraints of manufacturing and handling such thick, heavy isolation devices.
