B16.36 threaded orifice flanges for Class 300 service
Class 300 Threaded Orifice Flanges provide a weld-free connection method for orifice plate installations. The NPT-threaded bore accepts standard pipe threads, making these flanges ideal for applications where hot work permits are difficult to obtain or where the piping material is not readily weldable.
The threaded connection limits available sizes to smaller diameters, typically NPS 1 through NPS 4, and the pressure-temperature rating is slightly derated compared to welded connections due to the reduced wall section at the thread root. Pressure tap locations and orifice plate retention features remain identical to other B16.36 orifice flange types.
Threaded orifice flanges are commonly found in natural gas distribution metering stations, compressed air flow monitoring, and small-bore process instrument connections where the convenience of a threaded joint outweighs the modest reduction in pressure rating.
