Intermediate Connection
Class 600 Nozzle Flanges
Intermediate connection flanges for Class 600 service
Class 600 Nozzle Flanges are heavy-duty intermediate connections for high-pressure vessels and equipment. The substantial flange thickness and bolt loading at Class 600 provide robust clamping force that maintains gasket integrity under demanding pressure and temperature conditions.
At Class 600, the weight and dimensions of nozzle flanges increase significantly, and special attention must be paid to nozzle loading calculations on the vessel shell. The moment arm created by the offset between the piping centerline and the vessel shell attachment point generates bending stresses that must be evaluated per ASME Section VIII, Division 1 or 2.
These flanges are essential components in high-pressure reactors, separators, and heat exchangers in hydroprocessing, ammonia synthesis, and high-pressure steam generation. Ring-type joint face configurations are commonly specified at Class 600 for maximum seal reliability, particularly in hydrogen and high-temperature hydrocarbon service.
